We all know those near-oldsters who, ambulatorily compromised in their homes, can't reach for a hanging Dutch oven, can't pull out a hefty wooden bread board, or can't pour from a pot of rapidly boiling water without losing their balance, tottering toward a wall, and careening to the floor in a lumpish heap. (And their internal skeletons are no help at all when tender-ish bones go crashing into contact with the floor.) Ouch.

What they needed, I recently mentioned to a friend, were friendly domestic robots. "Friendly domestic robots that fly and swoop," she amended. Friendly domestic flying robots that nevertheless propel themselves on tripods of legs with optional suckers on their ends would be spot on, I've concluded.

Nascent tekkie inventors, please take note!
