"Slimy the Sculpin" is also an indicator of clean water and can be found in pristine mountain streams. I'm still trying to distinguish Slimy from his cousin, Motel...er, Mottled, that is.


A lovely post. I enjoyed reading those names. Moths have similarly evocative names - many of them dark and mysterious as befits their twilight nature. Have a look in a moth book if your library has one.
