In the book, Sonseeahray was 18. She had been captured by another tribe and returned to the Chiricahua and hence had missed her "Puberty Rite." In other words, she celebrated later than most Chiricahua girls. Author Elliot Arnold was not about to venture into some story about an underage girl in 1947.

It's not the wide age gap. 40 marrying 70 would be fine. It's that Jimmy S. is pursuing a child. Not right.

Why creepy? It was not even considered odd in those days to have a wide age gap. People get so hung up on this, customs then were much different.
